Gavel and Pedestal Design
I created this Gavel and Pedestal in honor of Ruth Badger Ginsberg in 2020, as part of a Product Design class. The final products were printed in two parts on a Strarasys.
I created the Gavel as an extended metaphor for the law. The judicial system is made of laws that provide a framework to its citizens. The Gavel mimics the law in this way, it is not completely solid, but with a strong frame it can carry justice effectively.
The Pedestal was built with a message engraved on the steps. All around the Pedestal letters cover the steps, but it is only at a certain angle a message can be revealed. This symbolizes that the truth can be found, when looking at something from the right perspective. It would have been poetic, if it were legible, note to self to increase the depth on engraved items.
